Kannawidan Festival: The Pride of the Ilocanos

The Philippines has a lot of festivals, both major and minor, almost every day of the year has at least one specific celebration. We, Filipinos, truly love to get together and celebrate and exhibit our rich culture and treasures to the world.

In the beautiful province of Ilocos Sur, the provincial government conceived a festival that highlights the culture, tradition, delicacies and trade and agriculture products of Ilocanos for locals and foreign tourists to admire and they call it the “Kannawidan Festival”. It is a celebration that lasts from the last week of January to the first week of February. It is one of the most famous and most awaited annual celebrations in the province. This festival is not just the trademark of the province but it is much more than that, it is the representation of who we are as Ilocanos.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) might have stopped us from celebrating this festival including many other activities such as traditional tribal rituals, choir, folkdances, marching band contest, and street dancing showdown, the pride and respect of the Ilocanos for our culture and heritage will always remain in the hearts of all.
